TOM BALLARD ARTS
About me
I’m a naturopathic doctor writing about the health of our bodies, the health of our environment, and with a healthy dose of humor.
I grew up in Seattle and lived in the city and surrounding countryside most of my life. With the aid of a laptop, an internet business (Natural DNA Solutions), and relatively good health, I'm now a citizen of the world, living abroad most of the year. When in Seattle, I live alone with my pet geoduck, Chuck.
While I have dabbled in writing all my life, I became serious about it in 1982, taking classes and joining writing groups. I had plays produced at the Seattle Fringe Festival and the Seattle Director's Festival while being involved in the theater scene as work permitted. My screenplay Eco-Agent Man was a runner-up in the Washington State Screenwriting Competition.
I wrote my first nonfiction book, Nutrition-1-2-3, in the mid-2000s after years of answering nutrition questions from my patients. They wanted a book and I couldn't find one to recommend. What they needed was a no-fad basic nutrition book based on science, that explained common issues (“How do I cook beans?”), and did so without becoming bogged down in unnecessary detail. Nutrition 1-2-3 supplies that, and my following books on genetic testing and wellness provide more valuable, accessible information. My articles on health issues have been published in several journals including Well Being, Naturopathic News and Reviews, and The Sound Consumer.
At this point, I turned to novel writing. Current projects include The President is Down and a series featuring naturopath and amateur sleuth Kate Turner.
Laugher is good medicine, so much of my fiction and screenplays include a healthy dose of humor. Stay tuned for news about the publication of my novels and of short fiction and funny pieces.
